School reopens...for some!
School will start on Wednesday, 24th June, for the approximately 500,440 students who will be sitting for the Form Five and Form Six examinations this year. The Education Minister also informed that the ministry is studying the Takwim Sekolah and will make an announcement on the changes soon.
All secondary schools will re-open starting June 24 says Education Minister Dr Mohd Radzi Md Jidin. This applies to students who will be sitting for major examinations this year namely Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM), Sijil Vokasional Malaysia (SVM), Sijil Tinggi Agama Malaysia (STAM) and Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM). This directive also applies to students who will be candidates of international exams of the same standard this year.
The decision to commence school for this group of students was made based on advice from the National Security Council and the Health Ministry. He also informed that a booklet on the guidelines for the re-opening of schools had been drawn up and will be used by all education institutions to ensure the safety of students as a top priority. So be prepared to wash your hands, wear your masks and keep at least a meter away from your peers!
The MCO, implemented since March 18 prevented all students from attending school. Some schools had implemented online learning during this period to enable students to keep abreast of lessons.
Some of the protocols include:
1. Temperature monitoring
2. Social distancing in school
3. Recess implemented in stages and students to consume packed meals in class
The minister reiterated that for the students of non-examination year, school will commence in stages and the public will be informed accordingly. In the interim, online classes will be carried out to ensure learning carries on.
The ministry will also be re-looking at the Takwin Sekolah which is the official plan for the schooling year and we will have to wait to find out if our year-end schools may not be as long as it usually is! Also, we may just be seeing staggered school hours as the ministry scrambles for avenues to re-open school while maintaining the social distancing requirement.
Well, looks like we can all look forward to a whole new school experience now! After it’s all about #newnormal now isn’t it!
